Lecture Series

Our Fall 2009 Profiles in Aviation lecture series has been completed. Watch this space for our next exciting series. The following are examples of our recent lecture topics.

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 7:00 p.m.
DR. RUSSELL ATKINSON, Observer of Nuclear Testing in Southwest: Dr. Atkinson, a renowned physician and U.S. Army observer, will present a program on the effects of the U.S. Atomic Weapons Testing program during the early days of the Cold War. Dr. Atkinson studied the effects of radiation on the health of the Native American people affected by above-ground testing and can now raise the veil of secrecy which surrounded it for many years.

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 7:00 p.m.
DAVE GOSSER, (Maj. USAF-Ret.): A P-40 & P-51 pilot instructor in WWII, Maj. Gosser served tours in Korea and through the Cold War. His experiences include flight test operations for North American Aviation, and he is a card-carrying member of the Mach Deuce club, reaching twice the speed of sound in the F-105.

Tuesday, November 17th,2009 7:00 p.m.
SUSAN LORICCHIO, Amelia Earhart Historian: An air traffic controller by day and living historian after hours, Ms. Loricchio will present an evening with Amelia Earhart. Accompanied by items from her personal collection of Earhart artifacts, Ms. Loricchio will present a program on Earhart’s life and accomplishments.

High altitude flight gear and artifacts from G.M. Bell of Bells Aviation. Norden Bomb Sight restored by and on loan from the John Spencer Collection. This exhibit honors Medal of Honor recipient (posthumous) Joseph R. Sarnoski, Bombardier-United States Army Air Corps 1943. Depicting "Rosie the Riveter" a ficticious character representing women industrial workers during WW-II, and, a very rare grouping of WWII WASP flight gear on loan from GM Bell
